A young north east tennis star, who has spent the past two years playing full time on the tennis circuit, is looking forward to continuing his ambition thanks to the assistance of an Aberdeen based subsea organisation.

SUBC Engineering Ltd has extended its sponsorship deal with Bruce Strachan, enabling the 20 year old to prepare for another season of competition, and the former top ranked Scottish junior is determined to make the most of the opportunity.

“SUBC are a lifeline to my career in tennis as I simply couldn’t afford the costs of life on the tour without them and for that I am hugely grateful. SUBC has given me a chance to pursue my dream of becoming a pro tennis player which I am incredibly fortunate to experience.

“I feel I am still learning and improving all the time. My current ranking of 1172 is my career high and still rising and after some fairly brutal workouts, both on court and in the gym, I feel ready to start again, with a couple of ITF Futures events, followed by trying to qualify for the first ATP Challenger tournament to be staged in Scotland, in Glasgow at the end of the month.”

SUBC Managing Director Colin Burney is following Bruce’s progress with interest. “I have known Bruce for several years and, if anyone deserves to succeed in a career in tennis, it’s him. He has a fantastically positive attitude to life and is an extremely determined young man and SUBC are very pleased and proud to be in a position to assist in a meaningful way.”

Bruce, who is currently based in London and trains at Goslings Sports Centre, is also backed by several other north east businesses and individuals who staged several fundraising events prior to him taking up the sport full-time.

Formed in 2009, SUBC Engineering Ltd is a specialist provider of subsea BOP engineering personnel for crew and ad-hoc positions worldwide with subsea and hydraulic training. The company has established operations in key energy destinations such as Brazil, Singapore and Houston.
